Resumen
Los materiales ópticos orgánicos, o plásticos ópticos, están experimentando un auge en las últimas décadas gracias a los avances en los procesos de fabricación. Es ya habitual que estos materiales estén en sistemas ópticos del campo de la medicina o de la informática. Sin embargo, las características de estos compuestos no han sido tan estudiadas como en el caso de los vidrios, estando además muy dispersa la poca información disponible. El presente artículo de revisión trata de aunar aquellas características ópticas y físicas diferenciales de los plásticos ópticos más interesantes desde el punto de vista de un ingeniero óptico que debe enfrentarse al diseño de un sistema óptico.
