Abstract

The distribution of both residual stresses in the material and those due to an ophthalmic lens assembly can be analyzed using a tensiscope by means of the effect of the induced birefringence on polarized light passing through the lens. If a white light source is used the inhomogeneity generated in the material can result in images of remarkable beauty.
