Green Light Photobiomodulation and its Impact on the Viability and Proliferation of Human Dermal Fibroblasts under Variable Glucose Conditions

Abstract
Photobiomodulation (PBM) with green light has gained interest, but its effects remain controversial, especially regarding its mechanisms and optimal dose conditions. This study investigates for first time, the impact of green light exposure on human dermal fibroblasts, cultured under normal and high glucose concentrations, using different irradiation doses (0.125 J/cm2, 0.25 J/cm2, 0.5 J/cm2, and 2J/cm2). Results indicate a dose-dependent decrease in cell viability, with the most significant reduction occurring at 2 J/cm2, particularly under normal glucose conditions. Despite these effects on cell viability, no significant changes were observed in cell proliferation, suggesting that PBM did not impact the overall proliferation rate under the experimental conditions. These findings contribute to the understanding of green light PBM and highlight the influence of glucose concentration on cellular responses, although further research is needed to clarify the mechanisms and optimize therapeutic parameters for fibroblast-based treatments.
